The Importance of Promoting from Within

(Fremont, NH) As a second-generation family-owned business, “family” is one of the core values we have built our business on. At Jewett Construction, it is important that every one of our team members feels as though they are just that, family. The success of our organization is in direct correlation to the commitment, passion, and growth of our associates. We work incredibly hard to provide our team members a platform to grow professionally and personally. In the construction industry, it is, and always has been, all about people. At Jewett, our people are the most important aspect of who we are as a company; we genuinely care about each and every person we work with inside and outside of the workplace.
Company growth can almost always be attributed to the success and happiness of its employees. For this reason, Jewett has always had the mindset that the best approach to companywide growth is to grow our team members internally. We continually invest in our employees and provide them opportunities to advance through mentorship, training, transparency, and most importantly trust. We encourage our team members to be innovative, challenge the status quo, and take on responsibilities outside of their current role. It is tremendously rewarding for our team to see themselves and their teammates elevate within the company, take on leadership responsibilities, and become mentors for the next generation of the Jewett Construction Family.
Organizational growth creates opportunities and positions that did not previously exist. At Jewett, we have found that the most successful way to fill newly created positions is to first look within. After all, the growth of our company is a biproduct of the hard work and achievements of the existing team. Internal promotions create continuity within our organization and long-term engagement for our associates. This engagement and excitement within Jewett is the reason our company is fortunate to have employees with 10, 20, and even 35 years of tenure.
At Jewett, we are extremely proud of our company culture and what we stand for as an organization. Our ability to promote from within is a driving force behind our culture. Our passion for individual growth creates the overarching feeling that we are all working towards a common goal. The culture created by our team is contagious and translates to our projects, clients, subcontractors, and consultants.
The culture our team has created is one of the main reasons we can proudly say Jewett had zero layoffs during the 2020 pandemic. We not only sustained our workload and staffing levels during this time, but we also had numerous key internal promotions. These promotions created opportunities to welcome additional talented individuals to our team; in fact, we hired 24 new team members into the Jewett Construction Family in 2020.
