The Importance of Youth Sports
(Fremont, NH) A significant percentage of the Jewett Construction Team was involved in athletics growing up. Soccer, Hockey, Football, Cross-Country, you name it - we have someone who played it. Jewett Construction is proud to support the high school athletes who are playing this weekend at the CHaD East vs. West High School All-Star Football Game.
The benefits of youth sports are numerous and can impact lives in profound ways. Participation in team sports promotes health and wellbeing, builds confidence, and can even help maintain mental health. Sports echo real life: There is competition, teamwork, victory, loss, conflict, and resolution. Team sports teach the value of collaboration, developing trust in others, confidence in oneself, respect for authority, and respect for others.
Additionally, the benefits of youth sports extend far beyond the field of play. Through sport, children can learn to be decisive and work within a team. These positive qualities serve people well in their future careers. It also teaches them how to cope with the disappointment of a difficult loss and they learn how to rebound which is crucial to future success. They learn that they have the strength to face adversity. Tough experiences in sports can help young people build resilience that stays with them well into adulthood.
Several studies have shown a link between youth sports and academic success. One study even found that a large percentage of athletes reported achieving an “A” average in school. It also found that student-athletes were far more likely to have strong educational and career goals. Also, most of these athletes aspired to graduate from both a four-year college and a graduate or professional program.
For many kids, playing sports can just be a great way to make new friends. Participating on a team can give your children a chance to get to know others in their neighborhood, school, and the local area. Often these friendships last years and even lifetimes after the season is finished. They can reflect on fun times spent together and shared interests. Playing in a local league can also help build a stronger connection with the community. Young people will get to know adults who serve as volunteer coaches or league officials. They can build relationships with these trusted adults–who can be important role models. And your children can witness the value of volunteer service first-hand. Just one of these examples in New Hampshire is the CHaD East vs. West High School Football All-Star Game.
This year will be the tenth edition of the East vs. West showdown will take place! On Saturday, June 25 at 1 p.m. at St. Anselm College over eighty of New Hampshire’s best football players will play one more game that will raise money for programs at CHaD that rely on philanthropy. The kids jump at the chance to play in this game every year. The importance of this game cannot be understated. All the funds raised directly benefit patients and families, currently undergoing treatment at CHaD.
